John Lane to Rezin H. Snowden
Bill of sale dated the fourth
day of November eighteen
hundred & forty six
Know all men by these presents that I
John Lane of Anne Arundel County and
State of Maryland for and in consideration
of the sum of seventy seventy five dollars
current money of the United States to me
in hand paid by Rezin H Snowden of the County & State aforesaid at
and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof
I the said John Lane do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said
Rezin H Snowden his Executors administrators and assigns one red cow with
a white face one red heifer yearling with white face eight head of sheep
one black sow four head of Hogs for killing this year two mares one a bay
with white face one bay do with star in forhead one black Horse white face
about fifteen hundred weight of tobacco hanging in the house all which
property is now in my possession.  To Have and To Hold the described property
to the said Rezin H Snowden his executors administrators and assigns forever
And I the said John Lane for myself my heirs executors and administrators
or assigns the aforesaid property to the said Rezin Snowden his Executors
administrators and assigns against me the said John Lane my executors
and administrators and against me the said John Lane my executors
and administrators and against all and every other person & persons
whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend
by these presents provided nevertheless that in case I the said John
Lane shall pay and satisfy to the said Rezin H Snowden or to his Executors
administrators or assigns the sum of seventy five dollars current money
of the United States with legal interest for the same on or before the twenty
fourth day of Nov.r next ensuing the then this bill of sale and every
matter and thing therein expressed shall be void & of none effect
it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said property
is mortgaged by me the said John Lane to secure to the said Rezin
Snowden the payment of the money aforesaid.  In Witness whereof
I the said John Lane have hereunto set my hand and affixed affixed
my seal this twenty fourth day of of Nov.b in the year of our Lord
eighteen hundred & forty six                                  his

At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit

Be it remembered that on this twenty fourth day of Nov.b 1846 personally
appeared John Lane before me one of the Justices of the peace in & for the County
and State aforesaid and acknowledges the aforegoing writing to be his act
and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act
