Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland of the one part
and John H Sellman and Joseph Carr of the same County and State
of the other part whereas the said John H Sellman and Joseph Carr have
become sureties on a replevin Bond with the said Benjamin Watkins
of Ben to a certain Harriett C. Knighton in the penalty of five hundred
dollars bearing even date with these presents and the said Benjamin
Watkins of Ben being willing and desirous to indemnify the said
John H Sellman and Joseph Carr from all loss on account of their
being sureties as aforesaid has agreed to execute these presents.  Now therefore
this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Benjamin Watkins
of Ben for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of
five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said John H
Sellman and Joseph Carr at and before the sealing and delivery hereof
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has granted bargained and
sold and by these presents does grant bargain and sell unto the
said John H Sellman and Joseph Carr all the crop of corn and tobacco
now owned by him being on the farm of the said Harriett C. Knighton
and one yoke of oxen one bay mare one sow & eleven shoats.  To Have
and To Hold the same unto the said John H Sellman and Joseph Carr
their executors administrators and assigns to them and their only proper
use and behoof and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever
Provided always and these presents are executed upon that condition
that if the said Benjamin Watkins of Ben his Executors or administrators
shall well and truly indemnify and save harmless the
said John H Sellman and Joseph Carr on account of the suretyship
aforesaid then and in that case these presents and every matter
and thing therein contained shall cease determine and be utterly void

   In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my
seal the day and year aforesaid

       At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

Be it remembered that on this twenty first day of November
eighteen hundred and forty six personally appeared before me
the Subscriber a justice of the peace of the said State in and for said County
Benjamin Watkins who is known to me to be the person who is named
and described and professing to be the party grantor therein named
& acknowledged the same to be his act and deed
