our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty four personally appeared
                   before me David C Wilson Esqr the mayor of the said City of
    (seal)       Wilmington Mahlon Betts Samuel N Pusey and Samuel
Harlan Junr the said Betts Pusey and Harlan company the firm of Betts
Pusey and Harlan named as the Grantor in the foregoing Indenture who
severally acknowledged the said Indenture to be her act and deed
respectively and desired that it might be recorded as such  In Testimony
whereof I the said mayor have hereunto subscribed my name and caused
the public seal of said City to be affixed the day and year aforesaid

Recorded the 22nd day of November 1844


       This Indenture made this twelfth day of November in the year of our Lord
one thousand Eight hundred and forty four  Between William Taylor of Anne
Arundel County in the State of maryland of the one part and Joseph Williams a
coloured man of the county and state aforesaid of the other part  Witnesseth that
for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars and twenty Cents current
money of the United States to the said William Taylor in hand paid at or before
the sealing and delivery of these presents by Joseph Williams aforesaid the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged the said William Taylor hath granted
bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto
him the said Joseph Williams his Executors administrators and assigns a
negro Girl named Rosetta about twenty two years of age to serve until she
attains the age of thirty one years  To have and To hold the said Negro Girl for her
said term of service unto the said Joseph Williams his Executors administrators
and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Joseph
Williams his Executors administrators and assigns  In Witness whereof the
said William Taylor and the said Joseph Williams have hereto set their hands
and affixed their seals the day and year first herein before written

          On the back of the aforegoing was thus written

          State of maryland Anne Arundel County

                Be it remembered that on this twelfth day of November Eighteen
hundred and forty four personally appear William Taylor party grantor
mentioned in the within deed or instrument of writing and Joseph Williams
party grantee also therein mentioned before the subscribers Justices of the
