356 Know all men by these presents that I Joshua Grimes of the City of Baltimore in the State of maryland Executor of Moses Lawrence late of Anne Arundel County secured and at the sale of the personal Estate of said described for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and thirty five dollars lawful money to me in hand paid sell and dispose of to William Williams of Anne Arundel County he being the highest bidder at said sale one negro man named Henry to serve the said William Williams his heirs and assigns untill the ninth day of February one thousand Eight hundred and fifty Eight and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said William Williams the said negro man Henry for and during the term aforementioned which said negro man Henry I will warrant and defend during the aforementioned term to the said William Williams his heirs Executors administrators and assigns against the said Moses Lawrence heirs and administrators In Witness whereof the said Joshua Grimes and William Williams have hereunto subscribed the names and affixed the several seals on the fourteenth day of September in the year one thousand Eight hundred and forty four Joshua Grimes (seal) William Williams (seal) On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit: On this fourteenth day of September in the year one thousand Eight hundred and forty four before the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State of maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appears Joshua Grimes and acknowledges the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed William B Chimers Exd d d paid 3¼ 50 Recorded the 24 day of September 1844 Know all men by these presents that we John Johnson and Thomas S Alexander of the City of Annapolis in the State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and Eighty Eight dollars to me in hand paid by Richard J Cowman of the same place at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge do agree to Execute these presents Whereas by a [illegible] of the high Court of Chancery of maryland bearing date on this nineteenth day of July Eighteen hundred and forty three in a cause in the said Court depending between the said Johnson and Alexander Complainants and Richard J Jones defendant the said Johnson and Alexander were appointed trustees to all the real and personal property us the said described promisings mentioned And whereas on the fifth day of September in the year aforesaid the said trustee in pursuance of the said [illegible] and sell and dispose of to the said Richard J Cowman a negro man named George about twenty four years of age for the sum of one hundred (and) |
