5      Recorded the 20 day of January 1844


       This Indenture made this seventh day of January in the year of our
Lord Eighteen hundred and forty four Between John S Selby of Anne Arundel
County in the State of maryland of the one part and Lewis Tydings of the County
and State aforesaid of the other part  Whereas the said John S Selby owes and
stands justly indebted to the said Lewis Tydings in the sum of five hundred
dollars Current money and to secure the payment thereof is willing to Execute three
presents  Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John S Selby for and
in consideration of the said Lewis Tydings at and before the sealing and delivery
of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained
and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said
Lewis Tydings his executors administrators and assigns all and singular
the Negroes hereunto particularly mentioned and expressed that is to say
One Negro man named Edmund and One Negro boy named Charles  To have
and To hold the said Negroes unto the said Lewis Tydings his Executors
administrators and assigns to his and their own use and behoof  Provided
that if the said John S Selby do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be
paid unto the said Lewis Tydings his Executors administrators or assigns
the full sum of money above mentioned with legal interest for the same on or
before the first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight
hundred and forty four then and in such case these presents and every matter
and thing herein Contained shall cease determine and be utterly void to all
intents and purposes anything herein Contained to the Contrary notwithstanding
In Witness whereof the said John S Selby has hereunto set his hand
and seal on the day and year first above written that is to say this seventh
day of January Eighteen hundred and forty four

          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of M.d Anne Arundel County sc  Be it remembered and it is
hereby Certified that on this seventh day of January in the year our
