sum of five dollars to him in hand paid by the said Thomas J Hall at and before
the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Samuel Smith
does hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents do
grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas J Hall his Executors administrators
and assigns all his Crop of Tobacco and all his interest in and to teh Crop of
Tobacco and by a certain Emmerson Thompson on the land whereon he resides (the
same being one half of said Crop) the whole supposed to be sixteen thousand pounds
more or less  To have and To hold the said Crop or Crops or parcels of Tobacco
herein before granted bargained and sold unto the said Thomas J Hall his heirs
Executors administrators or assigns to teh only proper use and behoof of the said
Thomas J Hall his Executors adminsitrators and assigns forever  Provided
allways and these presents are upon this Condition that if the said Samuel
Smith his Executors and adminsitrators shall and do well and truly pay or
cause to be paid unto teh said Thomas J Hall his Executors administrators or
assigns the full sum of seven hundred dollars Current money with legal interest for the
same on or before the first day of may next ensuing the date of htese presnets these and
in such case these presents shall cease and be utterly void  And the said Samuel J
Smith for himself his heirs Executors and administrators the said Crops or
parcels of Tobacco by these presents granted bargained and sold unto teh said
Thomas J Hall his Executors administrators or assigns against him the said
Samuel Smith his Executors and administrators and against all and every
other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and for ever defend
In Witness whereof I the said Samuel Smith do hereby set my hand and affix my
seal the day and year first herein before written
Signed Sealed and deld in presence of            Saml Smith   (seal)

          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

          Be it remembered that on this twenty fourth day of October Eighteen
hundred and forty three personally appears before me a Justice of the peace of hte
State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel Samuel Smith party grantor herein
before named and acknowledges this instrument of writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such
