4¼      Recorded the 6th day of June 1843


          Know all men by these presents that I John Sewell of Anne Arundel
County and State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand
dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Stevens Gambrill John Rice
Lydia Sewell and John H Brown of the County and State aforesaid at and
before the sealing and and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the
said John Sewell do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and
by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Stevens Gambrill
John Rice Lydia Sewell and John H Brown their Executors and administrators and
assigns one negro woman named Sall one negro boy named George Slaves for
life one sorrell stallion one sorrel Gelding Eight head of Cattle two waggons
four beds bedsteads and bedding one Gig Crop of Corn and Tobacco now growing
two hundred Cords of wood and one thousand feet of lumber plank together
with all and singular my household and kitchen furniture all which
property is now in my possession  To have and To hold the said described
property to them the said Stevens Gambrill John Rice Lydia Sewell
and John H Brown their Executors administrators and assigns forever
And I the said John Sewell for myself my heirs Executors and administrators
the aforesaid the aforesaid property to the said Stevens Gambrill John Rice
Lydia Sewell and John H Brown their Executors administrators and assigns
against me the said John Sewell my Executors and administrators and against
all and every other person or persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and
forever defend  Provided nevertheless that in case the said John Sewell shall
pay and satisfy to the said Stevens Gambrill John Rice Lydia Sewell and
John H Brown or to their Executors administrators or assigns the said sum of
one thousand dollars Current money with interest for the same on or before
the twenty second day of June one thousand Eight hundred and forty six then
this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void
and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the foregoing
property is mortgaged by me the said John Sewell to secure to the said Stevens
Gambrill John Rice Lydia Sewell and John H Brown the payment of the
money aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said John Sewell have hereunto set
my hand and affixed my seal this twenty third day of June one thousand
