loaned to me & in hand paid to me by Charity C Gosnell of the County and State aforesaid
at or before the ensealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said
Dennis H Battee do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by
these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Charity C Gosnell her Executors
administrators and assigns all the corn now lofted in the corn house where I now
reside now in my possession to secure the certain sums of money as above named which
sums of money are specified by a note given to Charity C Gosnell the said Corn as
already named  To have and hold the same by Charity C Gosnell her Executors
administrators and assigns forever and I the said Dennis H Battee for myself my
heirs Executors and administrators the aforesaid Corn to the said Charity C Gosnell
her Executors and administrators and against all and every person and persons whomsoever
shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents  Provided
Nevertheless that in case I the said Dennis H Battee shall pay and satisfy to
the said Charity C Gosnell or to her Executors administrators or assigns the said
sum or sums of money due her with Interest on the same on or before the first of
August next ensuing then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein
expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning
thereof that the said Corn is mortgaged by me the said Dennis H Battee to
secure the said Charity C Gosnell the money aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said
Dennis H Battee have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal

                At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    Maryland On this twenty fourth day of February before me the subscriber one of the
Justices of the peace in and for said County personally appears Dennis H Battee
and acknowledges the foregoing deed or instrument of writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such case
made and provided  Witness my hand

          Know all men by these presents that I Joshua Owens of Anne Arundel
County in the State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of six
hundred and nine dollars and fifty cents current money to me in hand paid
by William Cecil ^Senior^ of Howard District of Anne Arundel County and State
aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt
whereof I the said Joshua Owens do hereby acknowledge have bargained and
