above specified and the said Joshua Grimes for himself his heirs Executors and
administrators all and Singular the said and negros Caroline and Child unto the said
James M Lucas his Executors administrators and assigns against him the
said Joshua Grimes his Executors and administrators and against all and
every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever
defend by these presents  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this 24th day of November Eighteen hundred and forty two

          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit  Be it remembered  That on this 24
day of November 1842 before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County
and State aforesaid appeared Joshua Grimes Executor of Moses Lawrence deceased
and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof

3¾      Recorded the 2d day of January 1843


       Know all men by these presents That I Joshua Grimes Executor of
Moses Lawrence deceased of Anne Arundel County State of maryland for and
in the Consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty five dollars Currant
money of maryland in hand paid by Samuel Thomas of the County and State
aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents
do grant bargain and sell unto the said Samuel Thomas his Executors
administrators and assigns One negro boy named William Coomd on the
twenty seventh day of December 1829 which said negro is to serve untill he
arrives at the age of thirty five years and then to be set free  To have and To
hold all and singular the said negro boy William above bargained and
sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said Samuel Thomas his Executors
administrators and assigns for and during the term of seventy two years one
month and three days and the said Joshua Grimes for himself his heirs
Executors and administrators all and singular the said negro boy William unto
the said Samuel Thomas his Executors administrators and assigns against
him the said Joshua Grimes his Executors and administrators and against
all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant
and forever defend by these presents  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and seal this 24 day of November Eighteen hundred and forty two
