and seal this fifth day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and
forty two

             At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit:

    Anne Arundel County to wit:  On this fifth day of December 1842 before me a
Justice of the peace in and for said County personally appeared the above named
William S Green and acknowledged the aforegoing instrument of writing to be his
act and deed               Acknowledged before           Wm Glover

       This Indenture made this ninth day of December in the year of our Lord
one thousand Eight hundred and forty two  Between William Jones of Anne
Arundel County and State of maryland of the one part and Benjamin E Gantt
Rignal D Woodward and John Rice of the County and State aforesaid of the
other part  Whereas the said Benjamin E Gantt Rignal D Woodward and
John Rice are my sureties for the payment of one thousand dollars by having
endorsed two promissory notes drawn by me and made payable to the said
Benjamin E Gantt Rignal D Woodward and John Rice and to secure the payment
of said promissory notes and to save from all harm the said Benjamin E Gantt
Rignal D Woodward and John Rice is willing to Execute these presents  Now this
Indenture Witnesseth that the said William Jones for and in consideration of the
premises and of the sum of four dollars Current money to him in hand paid by the
said Benjamin E Gantt Rignal D Woodward and John Rice at and before the
sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged
hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and
sell unto the said Benjamin E Gantt Rignal D Woodward and John Rice their
Executors administrators and assigns all and singular the negroes furniture and
other property hereinafter particularly mentioned and expressed that is to say one
negro woman named Rose and her daughter named Harriet aged about thirteen
one steam Engine one Saw mill with the horse power attached two horses one
cow and all my household and kitchen furniture  To have and To hold all and
singular the said negroes goods furniture and property unto the said Benjamin E
Gantt Rignal D Woodward and John Rice their Executors administrators and
assigns to them and their own use and behoof  Provided always and it is the
true intent and meaning of these presents and of the said parties thereunto that if the
said William Jones his heirs Executors or administrators do and shall well and
truly pay or cause to be paid the said two promissory notes endorsed as aforesaid by
