       Know all men by these presents that I Dennis H Battee of Anne
Arundel County for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar Current money
to me in hand paid by Richard H Battee of the City of Baltimore at or before the
sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
and to secure the payment of such sum and sums of money as I now owe or may
hereafter owe to the said Richard H Battee and to Battee and Sons merchants
in said City have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant
bargain and sell unto the said Richard H Battee his Executors administrators
and assigns all my Tobacco now hanging or being on the farm or plantation
whereon I now reside in Anne Arundel County  To have and To hold the said
Tobacco unto and for the use of the said Richard H Battee his Executors administrators
and assigns  Provided however that if I the said Dennis H Battee my Executors
or administrators at any time before the first day of July next ensuing the date of
these presents at the request of the said Richard H Battee and the said Battee and
Sons shall well and truly pay to the said Battee and to the said Battee and Sons
all such sums of money that I may owe now or at any time before the said first
day of July next may owe to him and them respectively then these presents and
everything herein Contained shall be null and void  And it is hereby to be
mentioned that I the said Dennis H Battee my Executors or administrators owe
and are forthwith well all convenient dispatch to pick and prepare for market
the same  To have and remit the same to the said Battee and Sons to be by these
Judiciously sold for and on account of the said Richard H Battee by whom the
proceeds thereof are to be applied in such manner as he may judge best to the
payment of such sum and sums of money is at the time of said I may owe to the said
Battee and to the said Battee and Sons and the surplus thereof if any to be held
by them for my use and subject to my order  In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal this 21st day of November in the year Eighteen hundred
and forty two

          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

       Anne Arundel County to wit   On this 21st day of November in the year eighteen
hundred and forty two therein then named Dennis H Battee appeared before
me a Justice of the peace in and for said County and acknowledged the foregoing
Instrument of writing to be his act and deed
