Nicholas Owens do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by
these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Saml Drury Sen.r his Executors
administrators and assigns 1 negro Saml aged about eighteen years boy John aged about
seven years boy David aged about four years boy Thomas aged about six months
one woman named Betty aged about thirty Eight and girl Juliet aged about seven
years and three yoke of oxen four Cows and Eight head of horses and now in my
possession to have and to hold the said Negro Saml Betty John David Thomas
Juliet and three yoke of oxen four cows and Eight Head of horses to the said Saml
Drury Sen.r his Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said
Nicholas Owens for myself my heirs executors and administrators the aforesaid
Negroes Sam Betty John David Thomas and Juliet and three yoke of oxen
four Cows and Eight head of Horses to the said Samuel Drury Senr his Executors
administrators and assigns against me the said Nicholas Owens my Executors
administrators and against all and every person or persons whomsoever shall
and will forever defend by these presents  Provided Nevertheless that in case I the
said Nicholas Owens shall pay and satisfy to the said Saml Drury Senr or to his
executors administrators or assigns the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars
Current money with Interest for the same on or before the tenth day of august
Eighteen hundred and forty five then this Bill of sale and every matter and thing
therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and
meaning thereof and the said Negroes Sam Betty John David Thomas and
Juliet and three of oxen four cows and Eight head horses is mortgaged by me
the said Nicholas Owens to secure to the said Sam.l Drury Sen.r the payment
of the money aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said Nicholas Owens have
hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the tenth day of August Eighteen
hundred and forty one

presence of   Saml H Hamilton

                At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit  On this tenth day of august
1841 before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County aforesaid
personally appears Nicholas Owens and acknowledges the aforegoing Instrument
of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof
and the act of assembly in such Case Made and provided
