133 Executed acknowledged and recorded according to law liberated and set free his negro boy John Gray at the age of thirty years who was born July twelvth Eighteen hundred and twenty one reserving to himself in the meantime the use and services of the said John Gray until the twelvth day of July Eighteen hundred and fifty one after which he is declared to be free Now Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Robinson the legal representative of the said James Robinson for and in Consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars Current money to me in hand paid by William H Stewart who now is and for more than one year last passed has been a bona fide resident of the state of maryland the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath bargain sold assigned and transferred and by these presents doth bargain sell and transfer unto the said Joseph Hodge his Executors administrators and assigns all his the said William H Stewart right and interest in and to the said negro boy John Gray for and during the period and term of servitude by him reserved as aforesaid that is to say from the date hereof unto the twelvth day of July Eighteen hundred and fifty one when the said John Gray will be thirty years of age In witness whereof the said William H Stewart and Joseph Hodge have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals this 28th day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and forty one Wm H Stewart (seal) Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Mareen M Duvall Joseph Hodges (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered that on this 28th day of July personally appeared William H Stewart and Joseph Hodge before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County and acknowledge the foregoing bill of sale or Instrument of writing to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned according to the purport true intent and meaning of the said bill of sale or instrument of writing and the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided And I Certify that I am satisfied of my knowledge that William H Stewart and Joseph Hodge acknowledging as aforesaid are the identical persons named and described as and professing to be parties to the said bill of sale Acknowledge before and Certified by Mareen M Duvall Exd d d WHM chd 60cts 4¾ Recorded the 7th day of August 1841 Whereas James Robinson of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland by a will bearing date September the Eighth Eighteen hundred and twenty four duly Executed acknowledged and recorded according to law liberated and set free his Negro boy John Gray at the age of thirty years who was born July 12th Eighteen (hundred) |
