administrators and assigns the said described property against me my executors
and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever
claiming the same or any part thereof  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and affixed my seal this 27th day of Feby 1841

                   At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit  On this 27th day of February 1841 before
me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Charles
Clagett and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in
such Case made and provided                    R C Hardesty

Know all men by these presents that I James Bryan of Queen Anns
County in the State of maryland for and in consideration of the natural love and
affection which I bear to my son William Bryan of the City of Annapolis
in the said state have given  And by these presents do give unto the said William
Bryan a negro woman named Charity and her child named John Henry and
which are now in the possession of the said James Bryan  To have and to hold
the said Negro woman and her said Child above given or mentioned and
intended so to be to the said William Bryan his Executors administrators
and assigns and which said negroes it is the intention and meaning of
these presents shall be considered as slaves for life for the purpose hereinbefore
mentioned  In witness whereof the said James Bryan has hereto set his hand
and seal this twenty seventh day of February Eighteen hundred and forty one
Signed sealed and delivered
          in presence of  J W Hunter         James Bryan      (seal)

                At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct  Be it remembered and it is hereby
Certified that on this twenty seventh day of February Eighteen hundred and
forty one before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and
for said County personally appears James Bryan he being known to me who is the
person named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing
Instrument of writing and doth acknowledge the same to be his act and deed
for the purposes therein mentioned  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto
subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid
