114 hold the said negro and other property unto the said Samuel Thomas and William C Hopkins their executors administrators and assigns to their only use and benefit Provided always and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the said parties hereunto that if I the said Enoch Shekell do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Richard Estep and Henry A Hall the said sum of five hundred and seven dollars with the interest that may be due thereon and shall well and truly indemnify and save harmless the said Thomas and Hopkins as Securities on the aforesaid note of hand then this Instrument of writing to be null and void any thing herein Contained to the Contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding In Testimony whereof the said Enoch Shekell hath hereunto set his hand and seal this twenty second day of January Eighteen hundred and forty one Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of & the State of maryland being first interlined Enoch Shekell (seal) Chas Hodges At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this 22nd day of January Eighteen hundred and forty one personally appeared Enoch Shekell before the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County & State aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing Bill of sale or Instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and expressed and the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided Exd d d Chas Hodges paid 4 Recorded the 6th day of February 1841 Know all men by these presents that I Edward H Stewart of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland Trustee under the last will and testament of William Stewart late of said County deceased having agreed with my sons Charles S Stewart and William H Stewart in Consideration of their conveying to me one half of the negroes bequeathed to them by the said William Stewart to be held by me in Trust Share and share alike for such of my children by my late wife Mary as may survive me except said Charles and William and which said negroes amounting to sixteen are enumerated in a bill of sale of same date as these presents intended to be recorded among the Records of Anne Arundel County Court Have bargained sold assigned transferred and set over and by these presents do bargain sell assign transfer and set over unto the said Charles J Stewart and William H Stewart the following Eighteen Negroes To wit Charlotte a woman aged 50 years Rachel D.o D.o 17 d.o (Sarah) |
