415 Between William Baldwin (colored) of Howard County in the State of Maryland of the one part and William Rowles of the same county and state of the other part Witnesseth That the said William Baldwin hath placed and bound out and by these presents does place and bind out his daughter Ellen Baldwin who on the sixth day of February next will be of the age of twelve years as an apprentice to the said William Rowles to learn the art trade and mystery of General House Keeping after the manner of an apprentice the said Ellen Baldwin to dwell with and serve the said William Rowles from the date of these presents untill the Sixth day of February when the said Ellen Baldwin shall attain to the age of eighteen years during all which time and term the said Ellen Baldwin shall the said William Rowles well and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said Emily Baldwin may be put unto by her said master according to the power and ability of her the said Ellen Baldwin and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave herself towards he said Master and honestly and orderly toward the rest of the family or him the said William Rowles And the said William Rowles on his part doth hereby promise covenant and agree to teach and instruct the said apprentice or cause her to be taught and instructed in the art trade or calling of a House Keeper by the best way or means he can and shall well and faithfully find and provide for the said apprentice good and sufficient Meat Drink Clothing Lodging and other necessaries fit and convenient for such an apprentice during the term aforesaid and at the expiration thereof shall give unto the said apprentice two good Suits of Wearing apparel one suitable for Sundays the other for working days In Testimony Whereof the said William Baldwin and William Rowles have interchangably set their hands and seals hereunto Test Pearce Curll his Cha.s Soper William x Baldwin (seal) mark William Rowles (seal) State of Maryland Howard County to wit: On the tenth day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Sixty before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Howard County personally appeared William Baldwin and acknowledged the aforegoing Indenture or Instrument of Writing to be his act Charles Soper |
