                                    State of Maryland Howard County to Wit:
Be it Known that on this thirtieth day of April in the year of our Lord
Eighteen hundred and fifty nine before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace
of the State of Maryland in and for Howard County personally appeared
Christian Close, Barbara Close, Greenberry Gaither and Catharine
Gaither his wife and Artemus Hearn the parties named in the
above deed of manumission and acknowledged the same to
be their act and deed for the purposes therein named

 Know all men by these presents that we Christian
Close, Barbara Ann Close, Greenberry Gaither
and Catharine Gaither his wife and Artemus
Hearn all of Howard County in the State of
Maryland do hereby manumit and set free our
negro slave Henry about twenty eight years of age his freedom
to Commence from the date of these presents
                   Witness our hands and seals this thirtieth
day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
