Severally firmly by these presents.  Sealed with our seals
and dated this twentieth day of April in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight
    Now the Condition of the above obligation is such that if
the above bound John Orem shall well and faithfully
execute his office as collector of the state taxes and shall
well and truly account for and pay over to the Treasurer of
the state of Maryland the Several Sums of Money which he
shall receive or be answerable for at such times as the law
directs then this obligation to be null and void otherwise to
remain in full force and virtue

Mary Gassaway
Bill of Sale & Indenture
to Ann Hunt
This Indenture made this first day of
May in the year of our Lord Eighteen
hundred and fifty eight  Between Mary
Gassaway Coloured of Howard County
and state of Maryland of the one part and Ann Hunt
of the said State and County of the other part
    Witnesseth that the said Mary Gassaway hath placed
and bound out by these presents doth place and bind out
her Son Harry Gassaway who on the fourteenth day of
September next will of the age of five years as an apprentice
to the said Ann Hunt to serve her after the
manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the
said Ann Hunt from the date of these presents until the
fourteenth day of September in the year eighteen hundred
and Seventy five when the said Harry Gassaway
shall attain to the age of twenty one years during
which time and term the said Harry Gassaway shall
the said Ann Hunt well and faithfully Serve in all
such lawfull business as the said Harry Gassaway
shall be put to by his misstress according to the power
and ability of him the said Harry Gassaway and honestly
and obediently in all things behave himself towards
