292 and able to maintain herself by labor her freedom to commence from the date of these presents Witness my hand and seal this tenth day of April Eighteen hundred and fifty eight Attest Avolina Warfield (seal) Reuben Warfield Milton Warfield State of Maryland Howard County To wit: I hereby certify that on this tenth day of April eighteen hundred and fifty eight before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Howard County personally appeared Averline Warfield and acknowledged the aforegoing deed of manumission to be her act Reuben Warfield Received to be recorded on the 4th day of May 1858 Same day Recorded and examined per W W Watkins clk
Witnesseth whereas the said John Elder is Justly Indebted to his wife Rebecca Elder in the sum of Three hundred dollars Currant money which the said Rebecca Elder hath advanced to him the said John Elder out of her own resources and the said John Elder being desirous of indemnifying and securing her the said Rebecca Elder for the money so advanced hath agreed to execute these presents. Now this Indenture Witnesseth that in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar curant money to him the said John Elder in hand paid by the said John Orem at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said John Elder hath given granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said John Orem one black mare too cows two yearlings calfs one waggon three feather beads one side board one mahogany Table two wood cock plows one two horse harrow two cultivators and one work stand. To have and to Hold the above described property unto the said John Orem in trust to and for the use intent and purpose that is to say in trust for use of Rebecca Elder wife of the said John Elder without impeachment to have and to hold the same described |
