Indenture of Apprentice
    John Y. Worthington
                  to
    David Dorsey
This Indenture made this
eleventh day of July in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and fifty seven between
Jno Y. Worthington one of the
Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for
Howard County of the one part and David Dorsey free
negro of the said County and State of the other part
   Witnesseth that the said Jno Y. Worthington as Justice
of the Peace aforesaid by virtue of the power to him given
in and by an act of ^the general^ assembly passed at November session
in the year 1794 entitled a supplement to the act entitled an
act for the better regulation of apprentices has placed and
by these presents doth place and bind out as an apprentice
negro boy Howard Pea who on the first day of Jany next
will be of the age of fourteen years unto the said David
Dorsey to learn the art trade and mystery of farming after
the manner of an apprentice the said Howard Pea to dwell
with and serve the David Dorsey from the date of these
presents until the first day of Jany in the year eighteen
hundred and sixty five when the said Howard Pea shall
attain to the age of twenty one years during all which
time and term the said Howard Pea shall the said David
Dorsey well and faithfully serve in all such lawfull
buisiness as the said Howard Pea shall be put unto by
his said Master according to the power and ability of him
the said Howard Pea and honestly and obediently in all
things shall behave himself towards his said master and
honestly and orderly towards the rest of the family of him
the said David Dorsey   And the said David Dorsey
on his part doth hereby promise covenant and agree to teach
