interest thereon from the twenty sixth day of February Eighteen hundred & fifty seven in consideration thereof I do hearby bargain and sell to the said Joshua Scrivener his heirs or assigns the following property namely one Negro Woman named Julia Ann aged thirty one years Now this Mortgage Witnesseth that if the said Nicholas Lusby shall pay to the said Joshua Scrivener his heirs or assigns the said sum of one hundred dollars with the interest thereon on or before the twenty sixth day of February Eighteen hundred & fifty eight then these presents shall be null & void And it is further agreed between the parties to these presents that if default shall be made by the said Nicholas Lusby his executors or administrators in payment of the said sum of one hundred dollars & interest thereon at the time specified in these presents then it shall be lawful for the said Joshua Scrivener to sell said Negro Woman specified in this presents to pay said sum of one hundred dollars & interest thereon & expenses of sale and the proceeds of said sale to be applied first to the payment of the said debt & expenses of said sale And the surplus to be paid over to Nicholas Lusby his heirs or assigns Witness my hand and seal on this twenty sixth day of February 1857 Nicholas Lusby (seal) I hereby certify that Nicholas Lusby appeared before me on the 26.th day of February 1857 and acknowledged the within mortgage to be his act & deed John Ridgely (of Jno) Justice of the Peace Received to be recorded on the for Howard County 17.th day of March 1857 same day recorded & exam.d per I hereby release the within Mortgage Witness my hand W.
