remembered that on this twenty sixth day of January Eighteen
hundred and fifty four before the subscriber a justice of the
peace in and for said County personally appeared Mary
Ross party to the above bill of sale and acknowledged
the same to be her act and deed according to the true
intent and meaning thereof and at the same time
and place appeared before me John P. Wall the grantee
in the said bill of sale named and made oath that the
consideration set forth in the said bill of sale is true and
bonafide as therein set forth

This Indenture made this seventh
day of March Eighteen hundred and
fifty four between Thomas Watkins
and Nicholas E. Watkins of the
first part and Michael Pue (all
of Howard County State of Maryland)
                              of the other part.  Whereas the said parties of the first part
                              by indenture dated the 10th day of November 1853 and
                              recorded among the chattel records of Howard County in
                              Liber E. P. H. N.o 2 fol 526 &c. did convey unto the said
                              Michael Pue by way of Mortgage certain negro male slaves
                              for life to wit negro Moses and negro Nace.  And
                              whereas the said parties of the first part have devised that
                              the period of the redemption of the said negroes should
                              be extended one year from and after the time mentioned in
                              said Mortgage and for additional security have agreed to
                              transfer unto the said Michael Pue an additional negro
                              slave to wit:  a boy named Grafton.   Now this Indenture
                              witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and
                              in consideration of the premises and for the securing of
                              an additional loan of one hundred and fifty dollars
                              by the said Michael Pue this day advanced to the said
                              parties of the first part the receipt whereof they hereby
                              acknowledge.  And which is for the period aforesaid
                              have bargained and sold and conveyed and by these
                              presents do bargain and sell and convey unto the said
                              Michael Pue his executors administrators and assigns
                              the said negro boy Grafton slave for life aged about eleven
                              years.   To have and to hold the said boy Grafton slave
                              for life unto the said Michael Pue his executors
