do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro slave Benjamin Allen Chew aged twenty eight years or thereabouts and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and Maintenance and him the said Benjamin Allen Chew I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all Manner of service for servitude to me my executors or administrators forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal on this twenty second day of December in the year eighteen hundred and fifty five signed sealed and delivered in presence of us George W. Dobbin state of Maryland Howard county to wit. on this twenty second day of December eighteen hundred and fifty five before me the subscriber a justice of the Peace of the state aforesaid in and for the county aforesaid personally appeared George W. Dobbin and acknowledged the within Instrument of writing to be his act and deed Jno. Z. Worthington J. P. Received on the aforegoing Instrument of writing when presented for record one dollar in lieu of stamp under the act of 1846 ch 61. W. H.
