74 James Thompson Exor Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale of Sarah Rawleigh was received and recorded on the 14.th day of November 1853 to wit √ To xd Know all men by these presents that I, James Thompson Executor of Robert Wrightson Sarah Rawleigh late of Dorchester County, and State of maryland, for and in Consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and Seventy Dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Robert Wrightson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Robert Wrightson, his heirs and assigns, the following negro woman Kitty, to serve until the last day of December Eighteen Hundred and sixty five agreeably to the last Will and Testament of Sarah Rawleigh, and the order of the Orphans Court Dorchester County, slave for the term aforesaid and sound in body and mind. To Have and To Hold the said negro Kitty until the last day of December in the year Eighteen Hundred and sixty five and then to be free according to the Conditions of the Will an order aforesaid as above bargained and sold unto the said Robert Wrightson, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, against me the said James Thompson Executor of Sarah Rawleigh her heirs, executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend. In Testimony Whereof I, James Thompson Executor, and J. Robert Wrightson, have hereto set our hands and affixed seals this 14.th day of November Eighteen Hundred and fifty three. Maryland Dorchester County, to wit: On the 14.th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County the within named James Thompson Executor of Sarah Rawleigh and acknowledged the within Bill of sale to be his act and deed, according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same, and at the same time came before me Robert Wrightson within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale, is true and bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846 Chapter 271 made and provided. Acknowledged before Whitefield Woolford J. P. Received November 14.th 1853 of Robert Wrightson the sum of One dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk Delivered and sent to party this 18.th day of November 1853 William W. Clifton his heirs and assigns, the following negroes Woman Harriett and her Child Mary Harriett to serve until the end of the year Eighteen hundred and sixty three and Mary to serve until the last day of December Eighteen Hundred and seventy according to the provisions of deceaseds Will and order of the Orphans Court slaves for the terms aforesaid and and mind.
