Joseph H. Edmondson &      Be it remembered and it is hereby certified
Adm.s of C. H. Pattison        that the following Bill od Sale was received
√               from                    and recorded on the 5th day of March 1857
W.m K. Traverse &              to wit.
Sam.l Traverse Exors                        Whereas by an Instrument of Writing
of Matthias Traverse             purporting to be a Bill of Sale from Samuel
                                            Traverse and W.m R. Traverse of Dorchester County
in the State of Maryland Executors of Matthias Traverse deceased
to Charlotte H. Pattison then of Said County now deceased bearing
date the 17th day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and
forty three and duly recorded in Liber W. I. N.o 2 folio 63 one of
the Chattel Records f^or^ Dorchester County the said Samuel Traverse and
W.m K. Traverse as Executors aforesaid for the Consideration of three
hundred dollars to them paid did grant bargain & sell or
design and intend so to do unto the said Charlotte H. Pattison
her Executors administrators or assigns one negro Boy named
James to serve twenty years from the 1st day of June 1843
agreeably to the last Will of testament of Matthias Traverse
proved and enrolled in the Register of Wills office of the County
aforesaid in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty eight.  And
whereas the said Bill of Sale is deemed to be Materially defictive
by reason of an error in the date of the Certificate of
acknowledgment thereof and other wise as will fully appear
by reference thereto and whereas since the death of said Charlotte
H. Pattison letters of administration on her personal Estate
have been duly granted by the Oprhans Court of Balt.o City to
Joseph H. Edmondson of the City of Baltimore:  And Whereas In
the purpose of confirming the title of said administrator to the
said Negro James and making valid and effectual in Law
the Bill of Sale above in part recited the said Samuel Traverse
and W.m K Traverse have agreed to Execute this confirmatory
Instrument

          Now Know all Men by these presents that for and
in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar
to them paid the said Samuel Traverse and W.m K Traverse
as Executors as aforesaid in pursuance of the authority in them
vested do hereby grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said
Joseph H. Edmondson administrator as aforesaid of the said Charlotte
H. Pattison for the benefit of her Estate the within mentioned
negro slave James to serve as a slave agreeably to the within recited
Bill of Sale for twenty years computing from the first day
of June Eighteen hundred and forty three.  To have and to hold
the said negro James unto the said Joseph H. Edmondson administrator
as aforesaid for the residue of the term the said James
has to serve as aforesaid.         In testimony whereof the said
