January 1857 until the first day of January 1858 and shall
keep constantly and in good order a scow that will safely
carry three passengers and three horses at one trip with an
able bodied and skilful hand to attend the said Ferry
and shall not charge or receive any greater price for services
that what is allowed by Law

William L. Hearn           Be it remembered and it is hereby certified
Paid  Ferry  xd              that the following Bill of Sale was recorded
Rebecca H. Stewart      on the 5th day of January 1857 to wit
                                     I Rebecca H Stewart of Dorchester County and
State of Maryland in consideration of the sum of Eight
Hundred dollars paid me by William L. Hearn of the same
County and State do hereby bargain and sell to the said
William L. Hearn my negro slave Charlotte.  And I do hereby
guarantee her the said Charlotte to be a slave for life.
Witness my hand and seal this 30th day of December 1856

Dorchester County to wit

I hereby certify that on this thirtyeth day of December 1856
personally appear before the subscriber a justice of the peace
for Dorchester County & State of Maryland aforesaid and acknowledged
the foregoing bill of sale to be her act.

John Brannock                 Be it remembered and it is hereby certified
Paid      To       xd            that the following Manumission was recorded
Thomas Ennalls negro      on the 10th day of January 1857 to wit
                                       I John Brannock of Dorchester County and
State of Maryland do hereby manumit and set free my negro
man slave Thomas Ennolls aged about forty years his freedom
to commence from the date of these presents as witness my
hand and seal this tenth day of January 1857
