195 seventy three and then to be free the above negroes Charles and Thomas James were manumitted by the said Michael Mitchell on the thirteenth day of January Eighteen Hundred and forty four to be free at the periods above stated To Have and To Hold the above described negroes as above bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said Thomas James Frazier his executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Michael Mitchell for myself my heirs executors and administrators all and singular the said negroes above described unto the said Thomas J. Frazier his heirs executors administrators and assigns against me the said Michael Mitchell my executors and administrators and against all and every other person and persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In Witness Whereof we Michael Mitchell and Thomas J. Frazier have hereunto subscribed our named and affixed our seals this sixteenth day of January Eighteen hundred & fifty Six Michael Mitchell (seal) Signed sealed and delivered Thomas J. Frazier (seal) in the presence of Charles Corkran Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered that on this sixteenth day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid the within named Michael Mitchell and Thomas J. Frazier and acknowledges the within Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the Same. At the Same time and place also appeared before me the Justice as aforesaid Thomas J. Frazier party grantee within named and made Oath that the Consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and sworn before Charles Corkran Received January 17th 1856 of Thomas J. Frazier the sum of one Dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk John L. Wrightson Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the √ from Exd following Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the James R. Norman 19th day of January 1856 to wit: (Stamp) ( one ) Know all men by these presents that I James R. (Dollar) Norman of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred and fifty Dollars current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by John L. Wrightson of the same county and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said James R. Norman do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John L. Wrightson his executors administrators and assigns forever one negro boy called Jim aged about eight or nine years a slave for life. To Have and To Hold the said negro boy Jim as above bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be unto the said John L. Wrightson his Executors administrators and assigns forever. In Testimony whereof I the said James R. Norman have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of January Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty Six Jas. R.
