153 day of April Eighteen hundred & fifty five before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of ............. the State of Maryland in & for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appeared Thomas Lambden & Margaret his wife & Aaron Warfield they being known to me to be the persons who are named and described as and professing to be the parties to the foregoing Bill of Sale or instrument of writing and do severally acknowledge the said Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be their respective act & deed the said Margaret Lambden having signed and Sealed said Bill of Sale before me out of the presence and hearing of her husband and the said Margaret Lambden being by me examined out of the presence and hearing of her said husband whether she doth execute & acknowledge the Same freely and voluntarily and without being induced to so so by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or by fear of his displeasure declareth & saith that she doth. In testimony whereof we hereunto subscribe our names on the day and year aforesaid Acknowledged Before And also at the Same time personally appeared Aaron Warfield & made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration therein mentioned is true & bona fide Acknowledged before W.m W. Pattison J. P. Thomas Lambden & wife Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Deed of Paid To xd Manumission was received and recorded on the 16th day of April in the year Affa Stevens of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifty five to wit: To all whom it may Concern be it Known that we Thomas Lambden & Margaret Lambden his wife of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations we thereunto moving have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, liberate, manumit and set free our negro woman Afa Stevens being of the age of Twenty Seven years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the Said negro woman named Affa Stevens we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Service or Servitude to us our executors or administrators forever In witness whereof we hereunto subscribe our names and affix our Seals this ninth day of April Eighteen Hundred and fifty five Signed Sealed & delivered Thomas Lambdin (seal) in the presence of Margaret Lambin (seal) W.m W. Pattison Jas. L.
