forever and I the said Levin M. Lewis for myself my heirs executors and administrators
all and singular the said negroes William & Mary Jolly and other the premises unto the
said John D. Farquharson his executors administrators and assigns against me the said Levin
M. Lewis my executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever
shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents

          In Witness whereof the said Levin M. Lewis hath hereunto set his hand and seal this
thirtieth day of December eighteen hundred and fifty four

                   State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit:  Be it remembered and it
is hereby Certified that on this thirtieth day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen
Hundred and fifty four before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland
in and for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appeared Levin M. Lewis he being personally
known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be the party
to the aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed at the
same time and place also appeared before me John D. Farquharson the grantee named in
the said Bill of Sale and made Oath that the Consideration set forth in the said Bill of
Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth.  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto
subscribed my name on the day and year aforesaid

Received the 30th day of December 1854 of John D. Farquharson the sum of one Dollar
in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale

John E. Applegarth & others    in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & Fifty five To wit:

                                     (Dollars)
John R. Creighton William B. Dail Levin W. Stewart and Peter Barnett of Dorchester
County in the State of Maryland are held and firmly bound unto the State of Maryland
in the full and just sum of Twenty six thousand six hundred and sixty six dollars sixty
six and two third Cents Current Money to be paid to the said State or its certain Attorney to which
payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators
jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this twenty second
day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty five   The condition of the above obligation is such
that if the above bounden John E. Applegarth as Sheriff of Dorchester County do and shall
well and faithfully execute the Same office in all things appertaining thereto and shall also
render to the several officers within this state a just and true account of all fees placed in his
hands for collection within the time limited by law and shall a^l^so well and truly pay all sums of
money received by him and also collect and pay all public dues fines & forfeitures which are due
or belonging to the state and shall also well and faithfully execute and return all writs process
and warrants to him directed and delivered and shall also pay and deliver to the person or persons
entitled to receive the same all sum or sums of money tobacco goods chattels or property by him
levied seized or taken agreeably to the directions of the writ process or warrant under which the same
