William M. Ross      Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following
    √   from   xd         Receipt was received and recorded on the 8th day of January 1855 to wit
Edward W Maris               Received Dec 27 1852 of W.m M. Ross Esqr. the sum of One
                               hundred and fifty dollars in cash and ten notes of hand for the following
amounts and payable as below named one at 12 months for two hundred dollars, one
at two years for two hundred and fifty dolls another at three another at four another at five
another at six another at seven another at eight another at nine and another at 10 years from
date each for three hundred dollars with interest from date making in all three thousand
dollars which when paid will be in full for the purchase money of the farm whereon
said Ross now lives it being the same land that I purchased of Martin M. Dean & wife the
not all that I purchased of them having previously sold off a part of it to Josiah Jenkins
all the balance after deducting the part Sold to said Jenkins is hereby intended to be sold
to said Ross and I hereby promise bind & oblige myself my heirs assigns Executors or administrators
to give to said Ross or his order when the above obligations are paid and the taxes
that shall accrue on Said land are Satisfied (the interest on the above obligations to be
paid yearly) a deed for the Same Clear of incumbrance

James Steele                   Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following
  √   from   x.d                 Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 27.th Dec 1854
John C. Henry and          To wit:
Danl M. Henry, Trustees         Whereas John N. Steele late of Dorchester County
                                       deceased did in his lifetime convey unto John C. Henry and
Daniel M. Henry all his property both real and personal in trust for the payment of his
debts as by reference to his deed of trust bearing date on the fourteenth day of October in the
year eighteen hundred and fifty and recorded in Liber W. J. No 5 folios 514 and 515 one of the land
record books of Dorchester County aforesaid will fully and at large appear: and whereas the
said John C. Henry and Daniel M. Henry undertook the said trust and having ^sold and^ conveyed
all the said real and part of the said personal estate and applied the proceeds of the sales
thereof to the payment of the said debts the property hereinafter named remains in their
hands and possession and is not needed for the payment of any of said debts: and they
are willing to reconvey and deliver the same according to the terms of said deed and whereas
the said John N. Steele having departed this life on the fifteenth day of August in the
year eighteen hundred and fifty three letters of Administration upon his personal estate
have been granted unto his son James Steele according to law.  Now therefore Know
all men by these presents that the said John C. Henry and Daniel M. Henry trustees
as aforesaid for and in Consideration of the premises and also of the sum of one dollar current
money by the said James Steele administrator as aforesaid to then in hand paid at
and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which they do hereby
acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and
sell unto the said James Steele administrator as aforesaid the following negroes to wit Joshua
Lucy Daniel Marshall Hooper Moses Charles Littleton Henry John Nace Mary Elizabeth
and her three children (names not known) ^Sarah and her three children Jack Wesley and another (name not known)^ Margaret and her Son Isaac Maria
and Nancy her Child and Lilly all being Slaves for life: and all the books which formed
