of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and Sold, and by
these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the Said Edward Street his heirs and
assigns one negro woman named Rachel Fitzgiles about fifty years of age a Slave for
life.  To Have and To Hold the said negro Woman named Rachel Fitzgerald as above bargained
and sold unto the said Edward Street his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever

             In testimony whereof I Gabriel P. Lake hath hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this
nineteenth day of April eighteen hundred and fifty four.

       in the presence of
                                 W.m D. Barrow

          Maryland Dorchester County, to wit:
                            On the nineteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and fifty four personally appeared before me a Justice of the peace in and for Said County
the within named Gabriel P. Lake and acknowledged the within bill of Sale to be his act and deed
according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time Came before me
Edward Street party grantee within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty
God that the Consideration set forth in this bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth
according to the Act of Assembly made and provided
                                           Acknowledged and Sworn to before                  W.m D. Barrow


Edward Street                  Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following
Paid   to         xd              Manumission was received and recorded on the 19th day of April
Rachel Fitzgiles negro      1854 to wit:
                                       To all whom it may Concern be it Known that I Edward Street of
Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto
moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby
release from Slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my negro woman named Rachel Fitzgiles
being of the age of Fifty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance;
and her the said negro woman named Rachel Fitzgiles.  I do declare to be henceforth free Manumitted
and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever

       In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day
of April Eighteen hundred and fifty four

       Maryland Dorchester County Sc:  Be it Remembered that on this nineteenth day

instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland
for the Said County and acknowledges the Same to be his act and deed for the purposes within
