1 Lewis Ross Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Bill of Sale was From Exd √ 65 received and recorded on the 5th day of April 1852 to wit: Thomas H Hurley Know all men by these presents That I Thomas H. Hurley of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Two thousand Dollars current money to me in hand paid by Lewis Ross of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Lewis Ross his heirs and assigns, the following negroes, to wit; one negro man named THomas aged about twenty eight years of a dark chesnut complexion one negro man named Isaac aged about twenty four years of a dark complexion one negro woman named Maria aged about twenty two year of age, of a dark complexion, one negro boy named Thomas two years old of a dark complexion, child of said Maria the above named negroes are slaves for life and sound in bond and mind, to have and to hold the said negroes Thomas, Isaac, Maria and negro boy Thomas as above bargained and sold unto the said Lewis Ross his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, against me the said Thomas H. Hurley my heirs, executors and administrators, and against all and every ^other^ person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend In Testimony whereof, I, Thomas H. Hurley have hereto set my hand and affixed seal this fifth day of April Eighteen hundred and fifty two. Signed, sealed and delivered Tho.s H. Hurley (seal) in the presence of N. B. the words "named Thomas" one first page were interlined before the execution of this Bill of Sale Charles Corkran Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On the fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, the within named Thomas H. Hurley and acknowledged the within bill of sale to be his act and deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same, and at the same time came before me Lewis Ross party grantee within mentioned, and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this bill of sale, is true and bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the the Act of Assembly, made and provided. Acknowledged before. Charles Corkran Received the 5.th April 1852 of Lewis Ross, the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clk. Thomas H. Hurley Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Release of Mortgage Ex From √ 85 was received and recorded on the 5.th day of April 1852 to wit: Lewis Ross This Indenture made this fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two, between Lewis Ross of Cambridge Dorchester County Maryland of the one part and Thomas H. Hurley of the same place and County of the other part, Whereas the said Thomas H. Hurley by Indenture of Mortgage bearing date the twenty fifth day of March in the year 1852 duly executed and acknowledged and recorded among the Chattel records of Dorchester County, did for and in consideration of the sum of Two thousand Dollars Current money grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Lewis Ross, his heirs and assigns all his personal Estate of whatever kind or nature mort particularly described in the said Mortgage as by reference to the same will more fully and at large appear, and whereas the said Thomas H. Hurley, hath fully paid and satisfied to him the said Lewis Ross, the above mentioned sum of money and interest by a full conveyance |
