Ch. 26

2004 LAWS OF MARYLAND

SUBTITLE 12. TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE NUMBERS.
10-1201. SYSTEM REQUIRED FOR STATE UNITS.

EACH UNIT OF STATE GOVERNMENT SHALL INSTALL AND MAINTAIN A
TELEPHONE SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS A PERSON FROM ANYWHERE IN THE STATE TO
COMMUNICATE WITH EMPLOYEES OF THE UNIT BY TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE CALL
DURING THE REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS OF THE UNIT FOR THE PURPOSE OF
CONDUCTING OFFICIAL STATE BUSINESS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly was Art. 41, § 18-206(a).

The only changes are in style.

Defined term: "Person" § 1-101

10-1202. PRINTING OF NUMBERS FOR DISTRIBUTION.

EACH UNIT OF STATE GOVERNMENT SHALL PRINT ITS TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE
NUMBERS ON THE UNIT'S OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING STATIONERY, FAX
COVER SHEETS, BUSINESS CARDS, AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS THAT ARE
DISTRIBUTED TO THE PUBLIC.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 41, § 18-206(b)(1).

The former reference to a unit printing "each of" its toll-free telephone
numbers on its official documents is deleted to avoid the apparently
unintended consequence of requiring a department with many different
constituent units, each of which may have its own toll-free telephone
numbers, to print all of the department's toll-free numbers on every piece
of stationery, fax cover sheet, business card, or other publication that the
department distributes to the public.

Defined term: "Including" § 1-101

10-1203. INCLUSION IN DIRECTORY.

EACH UNIT SHALL INCLUDE EACH OF ITS TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE NUMBERS IN
ANY DIRECTORY THAT LISTS INFORMATION ABOUT THE UNIT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly was Art. 41, § 18-206(b)(2).

The only other change is in style.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, except in the repeal of
provisions of law believed by the General Assembly to be obsolete, this Act may not be
interpreted to render any substantive change to the Laws of Maryland.

SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Revisor's Notes and
the catchlines contained in this Act are not law and may not be considered to have
been enacted as a part of this Act.
