Ch. 26 2002 LAWS OF MARYLAND
In the introductory language of this subsection, the former reference to
service including, but "not limited to" specified activities is deleted as
unnecessary. Similarly, in item (4) of this subsection, the former reference
to service "including, but not limited to" certain types of equipment is
deleted as unnecessary. See Art. 1, § 30. (K) SLUG. "SLUG" MEANS AN OBJECT THAT, BECAUSE OF ITS SIZE, SHAPE, OR OTHER
QUALITY, CAN BE DEPOSITED OR INSERTED IN A VENDING MACHINE AS AN
IMPROPER SUBSTITUTE FOR THE PAYMENT REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE VENDING
MACHINE. REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived without
substantive change from former Art. 27, § 340(1). The former reference to "article" is deleted as unnecessary in light of the
use of the word "object". The word "payment" is substituted for the former reference to "a coin, bill,
or token" for brevity. The defined term "vending machine" is substituted for the former defined
term "coin machine" for clarity since a vending machine need not
necessarily use a "coin" in order to function as described in subsection (m)
of this section [former Art. 27, § 340(a)]. (L) THEFT. (1) "THEFT" MEANS THE CONDUCT DESCRIBED IN 7-104 THROUGH
7-107 OF THIS SUBTITLE. (2) "THEFT" INCLUDES MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT, UNLESS OTHERWISE
INDICATED. REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived without
substantive change from former Art. 27, § 340(m). (M) VENDING MACHINE. "VENDING MACHINE" MEANS A DEVICE DESIGNED TO RECEIVE A SPECIFIED
PAYMENT AND IN EXCHANGE AUTOMATICALLY OFFER, PROVIDE, ASSIST IN
PROVIDING, OR ALLOW A PERSON TO ACQUIRE PROPERTY OR SERVICE. REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived without
substantive change from former Art. 27, § 340(a). The reference to a "Mending machine" is substituted for the former
reference to a "[c]oin machine" for clarity since a "coin machine" need not
necessarily use a "coin" in order to function as described in former Art. 27,
§ 340(a) or in this revised subsection. The reference to a "device" is substituted for the former reference to a "coin
