RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
WHEREAS, The General Assembly of Maryland wishes to honor those firefighters,
police officers, and citizens who risked their lives to rescue people trapped in the
towers of the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, and who worked tirelessly to
clear the wreckage and to recover the bodies of people killed; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the WHEREAS, The General Assembly wishes to honor those
heroes aboard United Airlines flight 93, who gave their lives in the skies over
Pennsylvania in a valiant struggle to prevent the terrorist hijackers from using the
aircraft as a weapon of mass destruction in our Nation's Capital, thereby thwarting
the terrorists' goal of striking at the most precious symbols of American democracy,
the U.S. Capitol and the White House; and be it further now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
General Assembly of Maryland designates September 11 as "Maryland Day of
Remembrance of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That on September 11 and throughout the year, parents and
educators are encouraged to teach their children and students that the ideal of Liberty
in the United States, which the terrorists attempted to destroy on September 11, 2001,
remains unscathed; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Services to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland;
the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and
the Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates.

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Maryland Day of Remembrance of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks
FOR the purpose of designating September 11 as "Maryland Day of Remembrance of
the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks".
WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked and destroyed four
civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in
New York City, and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of innocent Americans were killed and injured as a
result of these attacks, including the passengers and crew of the four aircraft,
workers in the World Trade Center and in the Pentagon, rescue workers, and
bystanders; and
