Practical Masters Graduate Professional Certificate Program under certain
circumstances; defining certain terms requiring the President of an institution
of higher education to notify the institution's governing board and the Maryland
Higher Education Commission of the institution's intent to establish a Graduate
Professional Certificate Program; requiring the Program to be approved and
implemented consistent with certain provisions; defining a certain term; making
this Act contingent on the taking effect of another Act; and generally relating to
the establishment of a Practical Masters Program within the University System
of Maryland
Graduate Professional Certificate Program for institutions of
higher education. BY adding to Article - Education
Section 11-206.2
Annotated Code of Maryland
(2001 Replacement Volume) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Education 11-206.2. (A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED. (2) "EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS" MEANS THE PREREQUISITE
COURSE OF STUDY, ACADEMIC CREDIT HOURS,
AND FORMAL DEGREE AWARDS
NECESSARY TO SATISFY THE MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR LICENSURE OR
CERTIFICATION IN A PROFESSION OR AN OCCUPATION E
STABLISHED BY A
LICENSING OR CERTIFYING ENTITY UNDER THE BUSINES
S OCCUPATIONS AND
PROFESSIONS ARTICLE. (3) "PRACTICAL MASTERS PROGRAM" MEANS A PROGRAM THAT OFFERS
GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES TO SATISFY THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
BEYOND THE BACCALAUREATE LEVEL TO QUALIFY FOR LICENSURE OR
CERTIFICATION IN A PROFE
SSION OR AN OCCUPATION. (B) SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE INSTITUTION'S GOVERNING BOARD
AS PROVIDED IN § 11-206.1(B) OF THIS SUBTITLE, A CONSTITUENT IN
STITUTION OF
THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND THAT OFFERS A COURSE OF
UNDERGRADUATE STUDY IN A DEGREE PROGRAM THAT SATISFIES
THE
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS UP TO THE BACCALAUREATE LEVEL OF A
PROFESSION OR OCCUPATION, MAY E
STABLISH A PRACTICAL MASTERS PROGRAM. (A) IN THIS SECTION, "GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM"
MEANS A PROGRAM THAT: (1) OFFERS AND AWARDS A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE FOR SUCCESSFUL
