|
(4) The State Board of Education may adopt rules and regulations to
determine academic criteria for selection of tuition assistance recipients from eligible
applicants.
(e) (1) For a full-time student, the annual amount of tuition assistance shall
be equal to the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board, not to exceed the
lesser of costs incurred for the program required for teacher certification in an area of
critical or geographic shortage or the sum of these costs for a full-time undergraduate
in-State resident student at the [University of Maryland, College Park] 4-YEAR
PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF
MARYLAND, OTHER THAN THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
AND UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, BALTIMORE, WITH THE HIGHEST ANNUAL
EXPENSES FOR A FULL-TIME RESIDENT UNDERGRADUATE.
(2) For a part-time student, the amount of an award may not exceed the
applicable cost of tuition and mandatory fees for a comparable undergraduate
in-State student at the [University of Maryland, College Park] 4-YEAR PUBLIC
INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF
MARYLAND, OTHER THAN THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
AND UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND. BALTIMORE, WITH THE HIGHEST ANNUAL
EXPENSES FOR A FULL-TIME RESIDENT UNDERGRADUATE.

Except for an Educational Excellence Award under § 18-301 of this article or a
Distinguished Scholar Award under § 18-1101 of this article, the recipient of a
Maryland Teacher Scholarship may not hold any other scholarship awarded under
this title.]
18-2303.
[(a) Except for an Educational Excellence Award under § 18-301 of this title or
a Distinguished Scholar Award under § 18-1101 of this title, the recipient of a
Maryland HOPE Scholarship may not hold any other scholarship awarded under this
title.
(b)] Each recipient of a Maryland HOPE Scholarship shall:
(1) Be accepted for admission in a regular undergraduate program at an
eligible institution in the State;
(2) Be a resident of the State;
(3) Earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or
its equivalent in core curriculum courses as calculated and indicated on the high
school transcript after the first semester of the senior year of high school;
(4) Begin attending an eligible institution within 2 years of completing
high school or, failing to do so, provide evidence satisfactory to the Administration of
extenuating circumstances;

(5) Enroll as a full-time student at an eligible institution;
