AN ACT concerning

Department of Juvenile Justice - Summer Opportunity Pilot Program -

Extension of Sunset

FOR the purpose of repealing a restriction that limits the Summer Opportunity Pilot
Program to not more than three counties; clarifying that the Program fund
consists of money appropriated in the State budget and money from any other
source; requiring that authorizing the Governor, beginning in fiscal year 2004,
the Governor to include specified funding in the State budget to implement the
Program; extending the Program's termination date; and generally relating to
the Juvenile Justice Summer Opportunity Pilot Program.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 83C - Juvenile Justice

(a)     (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.

(2)     "Fund" means the Department of Juvenile Justice Summer
Opportunity Pilot Program Fund.

(3)     "Program" means the Department of Juvenile Justice Summer
Opportunity Pilot Program.

(b)     (1) There is a Department of Juvenile Justice Summer Opportunity Pilot
Program [in not more than three counties in the State selected by the Department].

(2) The purpose of the Program is to develop and implement educational
curriculum and activities in the summer months for the enrichment of children [in
those counties selected by the Department] who are under the supervision of the
Department.
