House Bill No. 182 AN ACT concerning Workers' Compensation - Benefits for Permanent Partial Disability - Repeal
of Sunset Provision for Benefit Payments for Certain Scheduled Members FOR the purpose of repealing the termination date for certain changes to the workers'
compensation benefit structure for permanent partial disability that exempt the
loss of the thumb, fingers, and great toe from the lower tier of benefits and
require the payment of benefits for the loss of the thumb, fingers, and great toe
at the middle tier of benefits. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Chapter 591 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1987, as amended by
Chapter 11 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1989, Chapter 97 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of 1990, Chapter 545 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of 1992, Chapter 171 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1994, and Chapter 405 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
1996 Section 8 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Chapter 591 of the Acts of 1987, as amended by Chapter 11 of the Acts of 1989,
Chapter 97 of the Acts of 1990, Chapter 545 of the Acts of 1992, Chapter 171 of
the Acts of 1994, and Chapter 405 of the Acts of 1996 SECTION 8. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the changes made to §§
36(3)(c) and 36(3)(a)(i)2. of this Article, now codified as §§ 9-626, 9-627(b), and
9-628(d) of the Labor and Employment Article, take effect January 1, 1988 [and shall
remain in effect for a period of 13 years and, at the end of January 1, 2001, with no
further action required by the General Assembly, these changes shall be abrogated
and of no further force and effect]. SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2000.
