PARRIS N. GLENDENING, Governor

as necessary and shall set their compensation at the time of their appointment. [(3)] (6) The County Commissioners may authorize the Sheriff to

services. SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Kent County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Kent County shall take effect at the beginning of the
next following term of office. SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2000.
May 18, 2000 The Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr.
Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis MD 21401 Dear Mr. Speaker: In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed House Bill 182 - Workers' Compensation - Benefits for Permanent Partial
Disability - Repeal of Sunset Provision for Benefit Payments for Certain Scheduled
Members. This bill repeals the termination date to ensure that the permanent partial disability
benefits will continue to be paid at the middle tier of benefits for the loss of thumbs,
fingers, or great toes. Senate Bill 117, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May
11, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign
House Bill 182. Sincerely, Parris N. Glendening
Governor
