2000 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
General Assembly acknowledges the enormous contributions and achievements of the
United States Navy Submarine Force; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be mailed by the Department of
Legislative Services to the Department of the Navy; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Services to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland;
the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and
the Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates. Signed May 18, 2000.
Joint Resolution No. 10
(House Joint Resolution No. 3) A House Joint Resolution concerning POW/MIA Recognition Day FOR the purpose of recognizing the sacrifices of the United States armed forces
personnel who are prisoners of war or listed as missing in action and that their
families are deserving of national recognition and support for continued priority
efforts to determine the fate of those missing Americans; and declaring the third
Friday of in September of each year to be "POW/MIA Recognition Day". WHEREAS, The United States has fought in many wars and thousands of
Americans who served in those wars were captured by the enemy or listed as missing
in action; and WHEREAS, Many of these Americans are still listed as missing and
unaccounted for, and the uncertainty surrounding their fates has caused their
families to suffer tragic and continuing hardships; and WHEREAS, In 1987, the United States Congress designated POW/MIA
Recognition Day as September 18th; and WHEREAS, No day is set aside in the State to recognize the prisoners of war
and those listed as missing in action; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
General Assembly recognizes the sacrifices of Americans still missing and
unaccounted for from all of our Nation's wars and that their families are deserving of
national recognition and support for continued priority efforts to determine the fate of
those missing Americans; and be it further RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of Maryland hereby declares the third
Friday in September of each year to be "POW/MIA Recognition Day"; and be it further
