Ch. 327 2000 LAWS OF MARYLAND
(II) "AMBULANCE OR RESCUE SQUAD" DOES NOT INCLUDE A
FOR PROFIT PROVIDER OF AMBULANCE OR RESCUE SQUAD SERVICES. (3) "CORRECTIONAL OFFICER" HAS THE MEANING STATED IN ARTICLE
11, § 4-301(B)(7) OF THE CODE. (4) (I) "FEE" MEANS A MANDATORY FEE OTHER THAN TUITION THAT: 1. IS CHARGED TO A STUDENT BY A CONSTITUENT
INSTITUTION OF THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND; AND 2. MUST BE PAID BY THE STUDENT FOR THE STUDENT TO
REMAIN ENROLLED AT A CONSTITUENT INSTITUTION OF THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM
OF MARYLAND. (II) "FEE" INCLUDES: 1. AN APPLICATION FEE; 2. AN ATHLETIC ACTIVITY FEE; 3. A LABORATORY FEE; AND 4. A REGISTRATION FEE. (5) "INSTITUTION" MEANS A CONSTITUENT INSTITUTION OF THE
UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND. (6) "FIREFIGHTER" MEANS A MEMBER OF A STATE OR LOCAL FIRE
DEPARTMENT. (7) (I) "POLICE OFFICER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO: 1. IS AUTHORIZED TO ENFORCE THE GENERAL CRIMINAL
LAWS OF THE STATE; AND 2. IS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING LAW
ENFORCEMENT UNITS: A. THE STATE POLICE; B. THE BALTIMORE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT; C. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF A COUNTY; D. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF A MUNICIPAL
CORPORATION; FORCE; ANY COUNTY;
E. THE MASS TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION POLICE FORCE; F. THE MARYLAND TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY POLICE G. THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT OF BALTIMORE CITY OR OF
