CHAPTER 327
(House Bill 32) AN ACT concerning Higher Education - Waiver of Tuition - Spouse and Children of Certain Deceased Police Officers, Correctional Officers, Firefighters, and
Ambulanceand Rescue—Squad—Members Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship Program FOR the purpose of providing a waiver from tuition under certain circumstances for
the spouse of a police officer, a correctional officer, a volunteer or professional
firefighter, or an ambulance
or rescue squad member who is killed in the line of
duty or the child of a police officer, a correctional officer, a volunteer or
p
rofessional firefighter, or an ambulance or rescue squad member who is killed
in the performance of the officer's, firefighter's, or ambulance or rescue squad
member's duties, or who dies from a heart condition while employed as an
officer, firefighter, or ambulance or rescue squad member if the spouse or child
enters the University System of Maryland; Morgan State University,
St. Mary's
College of Maryland, or a State community, college; defining certain terms;
requiring the spouse or child to meet the academic standards of the institution;
providing for a delayed effective date; and generally relating to a tuition
waiver
for the spouse and children of certain deceased police officers, correctional
officers, volunteer or professional firefighter
s; and ambulance and rescue squad
members
that a scholarship granted under the Edward T. Conroy Memorial
Scholarship Program may not be for less than a certain amount; and generally
relating to the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship Program. BY adding to BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments.

(1999 Replacement Volume) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Education 13-701.1. (A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(2) (I) "AMBULANCE OR RESCUE SQUAD" MEANS A STATE OR LOCAL
AMBULANCE OR RESCUE SQUAD.
