JH01.02 Bus Operations
Special Fund Appropriation, provided that it
is the intent of the General Assembly that
the Mass Transit Administration (MTA)
should provide paratransit services that
meet the needs of. disabled individuals.
The General Assembly is concerned that
these services are not always accessible,
that equipment is not always functional,
and that operators are not always properly
trained. The Maryland Department of
Transportation shall report to the budget
committees on the cost of improving the
MTA's paratransit services by October 1,
2000. This report shall include a
discussion of:
(1) costs associated with ensuring that all
lifts are fully functional:
(2) costs associated with training drivers to
operate equipment and treating
disabled persons with sensitivity:
(3) costs associated with making all MTA
bus stops accessible: and
(4) what the MTA is doing to improve
services under the current contract........
