SUBTITLE 2. PREFERRED PROVIDER ORGANIZATIONS.
14-201. DEFINITIONS.

(A) IN GENERAL.

IN THIS SUBTITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS INDICATED.

(B) INSURED.

"INSURED" MEANS A PERSON COVERED FOR BENEFITS UNDER A PREFERRED
PROVIDER INSURANCE POLICY OFFERED OR ADMINISTERED BY AN INSURER.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 48A, § 655(b).

The reference to "a person covered for benefits under" a preferred provider
insurance policy is substituted for the former reference to "a participant in,
subscriber to, or beneficiary of a preferred provider insurance policy for
clarity and consistency with subsection (i) of this section.

(C) NONPREFERRED PROVIDER.

"NONPREFERRED PROVIDER" MEANS A PROVIDER THAT IS ELIGIBLE FOR
PAYMENT UNDER A PREFERRED PROVIDER INSURANCE POLICY, BUT THAT IS NOT A
PREFERRED PROVIDER UNDER THE APPLICABLE PROVIDER SERVICE CONTRACT.

The reference to a provider that is "not a preferred provider" is substituted
for the former reference to a provider that is "not a contractee" for clarity.
