1997 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(B) IN GENERAL.

(1) AT ANY PROCEEDING, A DEAF EMPLOYEE MAY REQUEST AN
INTERPRETER.

(2) THE REQUEST MUST BE IN WRITING AND SUBMITTED AT LEAST 5
DAYS BEFORE THE PROCEEDING BEGINS.

(C) NOTICE TO EMPLOYEE.

THE EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE ORGANIZATION, OR UNION SHALL NOTIFY THE
DEAF EMPLOYEE IN WRITING OF THE RIGHT GRANTED BY THIS SECTION AS SOON
AS IT IS POSSIBLE OR AT LEAST 8 DAYS BEFORE THE HEARING BEGINS.

(D) SELECTION OF INTERPRETER.

(1) IF AN INTERPRETER IS REQUESTED UNDER THIS SECTION, THE
EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE ORGANIZATION, OR UNION SHALL REQUEST THE OFFICE
FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO ASSIST IN LOCATING A QUALIFIED
INTERPRETER TO ASSIST AT THE HEARING.

(2) THE OFFICE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES SHALL
PROMPTLY ASSIST IN LOCATING AN INTERPRETER.

(E) DUTIES OF INTERPRETER.

THE INTERPRETER SHALL FACILITATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE
AFFECTED PARTIES, SUBJECT TO THE CODE OF ETHICS OF THE NATIONAL REGISTRY
OF INTERPRETERS FOR THE DEAF.

(F) COST.

THE COST OF THE INTERPRETER'S SERVICES SHALL BE DIVIDED EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE EMPLOYER AND THE UNION OR EMPLOYEE ORGANIZATION.

change from former Art. 30, § 2A.

SUBTITLE 4. MARYLAND COORDINATE SYSTEM.
14-401. "MARYLAND COORDINATE SYSTEM" DEFINED.

IN THIS SUBTITLE, "MARYLAND COORDINATE SYSTEM" MEANS THE SYSTEM OF
PLANE RECTANGULAR COORDINATES THAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AND ADOPTED
BY THE NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY FOR DEFINING AND STATING THE POSITIONS
OR LOCATIONS OF POINTS ON THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH WITHIN THE STATE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from the first clause of former Art. 91, § 19.

The phrase "of Maryland", which formerly modified "State", is deleted as
unnecessary and to conform to usage throughout this article.
