House Bill 751, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on this date,
accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill

647.

AN ACT concerning

Health Occupations - Dental Hygienists

FOR the purpose of altering the education requirements for an applicant for a license to
practice dental hygiene; altering the information that an applicant for a license to
practice dental hygiene must submit to the Board of Dental Examiners (Board);
altering the education requirements for applicants who fail a certain examination a
certain number of times; altering the required qualifications for an applicant for a
temporary license to practice dental hygiene; authorizing the Board to maintain an
action to enjoin the unauthorized practice of dental hygiene; and generally relating
to dental hygienists.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 4-302(e), 4-304(c), 4-305(f), 4-312(a), and 4-320
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1994 Replacement Volume and 1996 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health Occupations

4-302.

(e) To qualify for a license to practice dental hygiene, the applicant shall be a
graduate of a school for dental hygienists that:

(1) Requires at least 2 years of [study] EDUCATION CONSISTING OF
CREDITS THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED INTO A 4-YEAR ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR
UNIVERSITY
IN AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION:
