Ch. 425 1997 LAWS OF MARYLAND

Department, and who are charged with exercising police powers in and for the military
property, designated as the Glenn L. Martin State Airport, to which they are assigned.

[(5)](G) "Municipality" means any incorporated city of any class which,
within its jurisdiction has or w
ill have a law enforcement unit as defined in this section.

[(6)](H) "Permanent appointment" means the appointment of a person
who has satisfactorily met the minimum standards of the Commission and is certified as a
police officer:

[(7)] (I) "Police official" means a full-time police officer employed by a
governmental agency having administrative respon
sibility.

[(8)](J) [(i)] (1) "Police officer" means a person who has the authority to
enforce the general criminal laws of th
is State and is a member of any of the following law
enforcement units
:

[1.] (I) Department of State Police;

[2.] (II) Baltimore City Police Department;

[3.](III) Police department, bureau, or force of a county;

[4.] (IV) Police department, bureau, or force of an incorporated

city or town;

[5.] (V) Mass Transit Administration Police Force, the
Maryland Port Administration Police Force of the Department of Transportation, or the
Maryland Tran
sportation Authority Police Force;

[6.] (VI) Police Force of the University of Maryland or Morgan

State University;

[7.] (VII) Sheriff's department of any county or Baltimore City;

[8.] (VIII)Natural Resources Police Force or the Forest and Park
Servic
e Police Force of the Department of Natural Resources;

[9.] (IX) Security Force of the Department of General Services;
or State, county or municipality security force if the special police officers are appointed
under the provisions of § 4-901 of this article;

[10.] (X) Housing-Authority of Baltimore City Police Force;

[11.] (XI) Baltimore City School Police Force; or

[12.] (XII) Crofton Police Department.

[(ii)](2) Police officer does not mean a person serving as such solely
by virtu
e of his occupying any other office or position, nor does the term include a sheriff,
Secretary of the State Police, commissioner of police, deputy or assistant commissioner of
polic
e, chief of police, deputy or assistant chief of police, or any person having an
equ
ivalent title who is appointed or employed by a government to exercise equivalent
supervisory authority. The term also does not mean any member of the Maryland
