CHAPTER 375
(Senate Bill 598)

AN ACT concerning

Anne Arundel County - State's Attorney - Salary Adjustments

FOR the purpose of increasing the annual salary of the State's Attorney for Anne
Arundel County; providing that this Act does not apply to the salary or
compensation of the incumbent State's Attorney; and generally relating to the
salary of the State's Attorney for Anne Arundel County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 10 - Legal Officials
Section 40(c)

Annotated Code of Maryland
(1996 Replacement Volume)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 10 - Legal Officials

40.

(c) In Anne Arundel County:

(1) (i) The State's Attorney's annual salary is:

1. $89,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1998;

2. $106,150 $96,500 $94,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1999; AND

3. IN CALENDAR YEAR 2000 AND EACH YEAR THEREAFTER,
AN AMOUNT THAT EQUALS THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S SALARY PLUS 2.5 18 PERCENT OF
THAT SALARY
$96,635 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2000;

4. $99,340 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2001; AND

5. $102,125 IN CALENDAR YEAR 2002.

(ii) The State's Attorney, during his term of office, may not appear,
except in connection with and in performance of his duties as State's Attorney, as counsel
or represent any party professionally before any court, board, commission or agency of
this State or any county or political subdivision of this State.

(iii) The State's Attorney may not engage in the private practice of law.
