reside or work in the State is substituted for the former reference to "persons"
since only an individual can reside or work in the State.

In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the former references to a plan that is
"modified", "altered", or "revised" are deleted as included in the reference to
a plan that is "amended".

In subsection (b) of this section, the reference to a "physician" is substituted
for the former reference to a "doctor of medicine" for consistency within this
subtitle.

Also in subsection (b) of this section, the former references to "physicians",
"dentists", and "podiatrists" are deleted as unnecessary in light of Art. 1, § 8
of the Code.

15-703. CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONERS.

(A) "CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER" DEFINED.

IN THIS SECTION, "CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER" MEANS A LICENSED
REGISTERED NURSE WHO HAS:

(1) COMPLETED A NURSE PRACTITIONER PROGRAM APPROVED BY THE
STATE BOARD OF NURSING; AND

(2) PASSED AN EXAMINATION APPROVED BY THE STATE BOARD OF

NURSING.

(B) REQUIRED OFFERING OF COVERAGE — INSURERS.

EACH INSURER THAT PROPOSES TO ISSUE, RENEW, AMEND, OR REISSUE AN
INDIVIDUAL, GROUP, OR BLANKET HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY IN THE STATE THAT
IS WRITTEN ON AN EXPENSE-INCURRED BASIS SHALL OFFER THE OPTION OF
PROVIDING BENEFITS FOR EXPENSES THAT ARISE FROM SERVICES RENDERED BY A
CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER.

(C) SAME — NONPROFIT HEALTH SERVICE PLANS.

EACH NONPROFIT HEALTH SERVICE PLAN THAT PROPOSES TO ISSUE, RENEW,
AMEND, OR REISSUE A HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY IN THE STATE SHALL OFFER
THE OPTION OF PROVIDING BENEFITS FOR EXPENSES THAT ARISE FROM SERVICES
RENDERED BY A CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER.

(D) LIMITATION OF COVERAGE.

THE INSURER OR NONPROFIT HEALTH SERVICE PLAN MAY LIMIT THE
COVERAGE OFFERED UNDER THIS SECTION FOR SERVICES PROVIDED BY A
CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER WHILE WORKING UNDER THE DIRECT
SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN.

(E) UTILIZATION OF BENEFITS SUBJECT TO PEER REVIEW.
